        A solemn opening of the Second Issykkul Film Festival of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Chingiz Aitmatov took place in Bishkek yesterday. Minister of culture and information, the festival’s president Sultan Raev opened it. Deputy prime minister Elmira Ibraimova delivered her welcoming speech. Hollywood actor Mark Dacascos, who came to Bishkek to attend the festival, also participated in the opening ceremony. 
        After opening ceremony, a film “Farewell, Gulsary!” on Chingiz Aitmatov’s novel was demonstrated. The film’s producer Ardak Amirkulov told the film will be shown to public staring from November 6. It has already won the Grand Prix of the V Eurasian Film Festival Astana-2008. The key role in the film – Tanabai was played by Kyrgyz actor Dokturbek Kydyraliev. 
        Guests and participants of the festival visited the memorial of victims of Stalin’s repression in Chontash and placed flowers on Chingiz Aitmatov’s grave. 
        The film festival will continue its work today in Cholponata. Its closing ceremony will take place in Bishkek on October 26.
